Meet Lauryn Santini! The owner of Santini Gallery, a contemporary art gallery nestled in the sought after area in Little Italy. Lauryn is a graduate of Sotheby’s Institute of Art, New York, NY, where she completed her Master’s in Art Business.
1. What do you love most about your job?
As cliché as it sounds, I love being surrounded by beautiful things. Art can really change the feeling of
2. Where can we find you on a) weekdays b) weekends
At the gallery! With the exception of occasional help from part-time employees or interns, and lots of help from family, when the gallery is open you can find me there, weekday and weekend.
3. Which area/neighbourhood of Ottawa do you live? What do you love about this area/neighbourhood?
My husband and I recently moved to Little Italy, literally steps from the gallery. I love being so integrated into a neighbourhood, work and personal life. Little Italy has a really strong neighbourhood feel, with so many decade long and family-run businesses. It’s fun to feel a part of that history, especially since my Dad grew up in this neighbourhood too. We love the walkability of living off the main street, being so close to the canal, as well as all the amazing restaurants.
4. If you weren't living in this neighbourhood, where else in Ottawa would you live and why?
We previously lived in the Golden Triangle and it was tough to leave such a beautiful area, and I think we would potentially move back there one day. I love how all the homes are so diverse; with a mix of old, modern, and everything in between, many of the things I loved about the area are very similar to where we are now, with restaurants, shops and the canal so close by. Once you get used to walking everywhere, it’s so hard to give that up!
5. What is your favourite room in your home and why?
That’s a tough one! Having just renovated, I feel like I love them all because they are fresh and new! That said, I love my kitchen. We tried to push our design to be a little less safe, and more interesting this time around and I am so happy with how it turned out. We went for a two-toned cabinet look, which I wasn’t sure about in the beginning, but it’s my favourite feature now. I also have lots of art in there I love looking at, of course!
